The Fallen – on Peace Day, September 21, 2013, they quietly and harmoniously drew 9,000 people in the sand so that observers can understand the loss with their own eyes. The 9,000 people drawn in the sand equates with the number of Civilians, German Forces and Allies that died during the D-day landings, June 6 during WWII as an example of what happens in the absence of peace. This was a quiet day with a very loud statement. Family Alliance for Veterans of America – provides information, education, advocacy and support to families of veterans and veterans across America at a time of their critical need. Such need arises, for example, when veterans return from combat with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and/or Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI); when veterans and their families need assistance in getting help from the VA; when veterans suffer from addictions to drugs or alcohol; when veterans have encountered the criminal justice system, including incarceration; when veterans have attempted, or committed, suicide; in short, when veterans and their families are suffering in any way from service-related issues and problems. Fatigues to Fabulous, Society for Women's Health Research – a national campaign established to honor and support the 1.8 million American women veterans by raising awareness about the issues affecting military women and by providing funds for needed services and medical research.
FOCUS: Family Resiliency Training for Military Families – as a service initiated by the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery (BUMED), FOCUS Project addresses concerns related to parental combat operational stress injuries and combat-related physical injuries by providing state-of-the-art family resiliency services to military children and families at designated Navy and Marine Corps sites. In 2009, FOCUS Family Resiliency Services have been made available to Army and Air Force families at designated installations through support from the Defense Department's Office of Family Policy.
Give an Hour – is dedicated to meeting the mental health needs of the troops and families affected by the ongoing conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. We provide counseling to individuals, couples and families, and children and adolescents. We offer treatment for anxiety, depression, substance abuse, post-traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injuries, sexual health and intimacy concerns, and loss and grieving. In addition to direct counseling services, our providers are working to reduce the stigma associated with mental health by participating in and leading education, training and outreach efforts in schools and communities around military bases, Bethesda, MD.
Gold Card ~ New Employment Initiatives for Veterans – provides unemployed post-9/11 era veterans with the intensive and follow-up services they need to succeed in today's job market.
